A room for conversation and knowledge
Oda Society
In preparation
In traditional Albanian houses, the oda was the guest room: the place where visitors were received, where conversation ran long beside the fire, and where a measured word carried weight. Oda Society takes its name and its spirit from it.
What the oda was
The oda was usually the best-kept room of the house: with a fireplace, low cushioned benches along the walls and, in many houses, a carved wooden ceiling. Guests were received there, news and opinions were exchanged, songs were sung to the lahuta and the çifteli, and the elders' words were heard.
More than a room, the oda was a way of behaving: the guest was honoured, conversation had its order, and everyone was heard before being judged.
Why Oda Society
Lexoshpejt is a library. But knowledge also grows when it is shared. Oda Society is the idea of a modern oda: a place for readers who want to talk about what they read, to ask, to listen and to learn from one another.
Principles of the oda
- The measured word. We speak to understand, not to win.
- Listening before answering. Everyone is heard to the end.
- Honouring the guest. A different opinion is received with respect.
- Knowledge that is shared. What you learn, you bring to the oda for others.
What is coming
Oda Society is in preparation. There is currently no membership, no meetings and no services. When it is ready, we will announce it here, with clear rules and no hidden costs.
Rosette motif: inspired by the carved wooden ceilings of traditional Albanian houses. Original design.
